Exceptional breakfasts, lunches, catering, house-made-bakery, fresh brewed coffee, barista-perfect-lattes and unsurpassed people-watching make daily visits to the Golden Pear Cafes a long-standing Hamptons' tradition.
Founded by Restaurateur, Keith E. Davis, the first Golden Pear opened on Main Street, Southampton in 1987, followed by East Hampton in 1991 and Bridgehampton in 1996. Keith learned the restaurant business through many years of experience that began at the age of 14 washing dishes and prepping food at a local seafood restaurant. During his college years and studying electrical engineering, Keith worked four summer seasons at the famous Dune Deck Hotel located on the Atlantic Ocean in Westhampton Beach. There he refined his front-of house skills by initially bussing tables, then becoming a bartender, waiter and catering captain. He worked very closely with the chef and learned all about breakfast, lunch, dinner and catered events food preparation and servicing.
After graduating college and beginning a career in engineering, Keith continued to work on weekends in restaurants during the busy summer seasons in the Hamptons. After a year or so, the chef from the Dune Deck Hotel was hired by Ina Garten, Owner of The Barefoot Contessa in East Hampton. The chef called Keith and offered him a job as sous-chef. Keith left engineering and never looked back. Barefoot Contessa was a busy, beautiful gourmet food store-market-caterer that provided Keith with a new culinary experience that was very different from the restaurants he worked for. Learning the new and increasingly popular business of off-premise-catering provided Keith with a foundation that continues today. After one year at Barefoot Contessa, Keith was hired to manage a gourmet food store in Southampton. It was while working there that he learned about an opportunity to take over a fabulous location, the current corner location of Golden Pear Southampton. Keith made it happen, took over the location and built the first Golden Pear Café. Now, 35 plus years later, Keith and his team continue to faithfully serve their very loyal clientele.
Through years of well garnered success and growth, Keith and his team have always stayed true to his original vision and mission: "To provide customers with an extraordinary experience every time they visit The Golden Pear so that they return again and again." A solid plan for success which continues to earn The Golden Pear numerous restaurant awards, customers lining up out the door and its well-deserved reputation as “The Hamptons' Favorite Cafe.”
